Skilled Trades of West Alabama is changing lives. With a mission to build a highly skilled, qualified and prepared workforce for the construction industry in Tuscaloosa County and West Alabama, we offer
opportunities for apprenticeships and training in the construction trades. With a high demand for and a shortage of skilled, ready-to-work employees and tradesmen, opportunities exist now to build a high-paying, successful career.

Skilled Trades of West Alabama was opened in September, 2020 during the midst of the pandemic, to meet the growing demand for skilled craftsmen for the construction industry. Our program has seen exceptional growth and impact with plans for future expansion.

Pre-Apprenticeship
(Jump Start) Program

The Jump Start program is the key feeder program for the Skilled Trades of West Alabama apprenticeship programs. It is a comprehensive, 14-week introductory program to the construction trades, built on the Core curriculum of the National Construction Center for Research & Education (NCCER).

Apprenticeship Program

We have teamed up with some of the best local contractors in West Alabama to offer a certified apprenticeship program for our community. The classes we have to offer are in the fields of Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Alarm and Low Voltage Systems, and Carpentry.

Opened September of 2020

In the middle of the pandemic, Skilled Trades of West Alabama was opened in September, 2020 to meet the growing demand for trained craftsmen. In less than a year, the program has seen exceptional growth. To date, there are 49 apprenticeships in place and Jump Start has completed three classes with at least four more scheduled for the remainder of 2021.By the end of the year, an estimated 125 employable students will graduate from Jump Start.

Skilled Trades of West Alabama is an employer-based, 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization with the  purpose to train individuals for skilled jobs in the construction industry and expand the pipeline for employers who are seeking employees to meet their growing demands.

Skilled Trades has an outstanding leadership team that works hard to carefully practice good fiscal controls and stewardship of the funds we receive and use our assets and resources in a cost-effective manner.
